In a world of global commerce and competition, outstanding brands distinguish themselves through collaborative enterprise, creative marketing, and superior products elevating themselves to the prestigious distinction of being named a Superbrand.

Kenya Red Cross is a Superbrand.

The Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) is a humanitarian organisation established in 1965, which serves as an auxiliary to both the national and county governments of Kenya.

Based upon the 1949 Geneva Convention and the Additional Protocols of 1977, the KRCS Constitution states that, alongside it’s auxiliary role to government, the society maintains autonomy which allows it to act under the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

These fundamental principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality continues to guide the Society in empowering the communities as it focuses on alleviating human suffering and reaching the most vulnerable.

Disaster management provides immediate relief to affected populations, saving lives and protecting livelihoods. The Society through it’s resilience programmes focuses on providing access to environmentally safe water, sanitation facilities, access to affordable and equitable community-based health care and supporting food security initiatives.

In 2013, KRCS established the International Centre for Humanitarian Affairs (ICHA), dedicated to fostering resilient and sustainable communities. ICHA strives to make meaningful contributions to humanitarian efforts worldwide, offering consultations and advisory services on issues such as climate, research, innovation, data, policy, and advocacy.

KRCS’s strives to build a strong national society through its branches, governance, youth programmes, as well as membership and volunteer management to serve the communities and subsequently provide peer to peer capacity enhancement to other National Societies within the movement.

The Kenya Red Cross Training Institute offers emergency management programmes, disaster management programmes, short medical courses and leadership management programmes.

Emergency Plus Medical Services is fully owned by KRCS to offer pre-hospital care services and emergency ambulance services on commercial basis, which include a 24-hour emergency ambulance service.

Recently, KRCS underwent reorganisation within its branches, reducing the number of branches to 47, one for each county. As an auxiliary to the government, KRCS has worked along county governments, attaining 14 memoranda of understanding.

KRCS is committed to sustainably promoting the well-being, health and resilience of communities, providing humanitarian support during emergencies, and working with partners to implement innovative, community driven programmes that transform lives and enhance communities.
