Széchenyi and Gellert Baths is a Superbrand.
The Széchenyi and the Gellért Baths are the two jewels of the bathing world in Budapest. Their mission is to improve peopleʼs lives, offering luxury bath and recreational facilities and services.
The success of these historic baths lies in combining the centuries-old tradition of bathing in hot-spring waters with modern amenities, including massage therapies, facial treatments, and more.
The bathsʼ historic architecture and international reputation attract a global clientele from all walks of life. Both Szechenyi and Gellert Baths have received numerous Hungarian and international awards and prizes.
The Széchenyi bath opened in 1913, and was the first thermal bath on the Pest side. Built in the modern Renaissance style, the interior and exterior decorations of the building were created by the most renowned artists of the age.
The medicinal waters of the Széchenyi Bath derive from the Saint Stephenʼs spring, Budapestʼs second deepest source.
Today the Széchenyi Bath is one of the largest and most modern baths in Europe, and receives more than 1.5 million guests each year. The Bath includes 21 thermal pools, a luxurious bath, cafe, fitness center, and also features a full-day hospital, with a capacity of 178 patients daily.
The Gellért Thermal Bath and Hotel opened in 1918, and is considered a masterpiece of Hungarian Art Noveaux. The bath itself is fed by the 12th century hot springs within Gellért Hill. Known as the “Palace of Baths,” the famous structure includes 12 geothermal baths, salt chambers, massage rooms and a private bathing area.
Named the “City of Baths” in 1934, Budapest hosted the first international balneology conference in 1937, and Gellért Thermal Bath was chosen to serve as the headquarters for the International Balneology Association.
The Gellért Bath now receives more than 500,000 guests each year. Thanks to the recent renovation, many original features of the bath, including the Zsolnay porcelain tiles and fixtures in the pool area, the wooden dressing room and the stained glass windows in the great hall, have been rediscovered in their original light.
Two of the most beautiful and elegant baths in Budapest, the Széchenyi and the Gellért Baths bring the time-honored tradition of thermal bathing into the 21st century, providing visitors an experience that is refreshing, relaxing, and rejuvenating.
